NEW PASTOR AT ST. JOSEPH'S
Bishop Brennan has appointed a new Pastor to our church: Fr. Cezariusz Jastrzębski, shortly called Fr. Cesar. He will take over the Parish from Fr. Chris on July 1, 2023. Fr. Cesar is 38 years old and was ordained in 2014. Fr. Chris will take over the parish of St. Bonaventure-St. Benedict the Moor in our Deanery.
REGISTRATION AT ST. JOE'S
Those, who would like to register at our church, must fill out a form that is available at stjjamaica.org/registration. After the registration, the pastor will contact the household over the phone. We remind you that it takes 3 months of residence until the registration is in full effect. Without proper registration, the pastor does not have full faculties to address many sacramental, official and legal, and charitable needs. Parish registration is NOT OPTIONAL, and it shows a lack of serious attitude. “I come to church/mass” is not enough to establish a proper membership at St. Joe’s, or elsewhere for that matter. There will be no exceptions to that rule! Those households who have not been active for 6 months or more will receive a letter from the pastor informing them that are no longer members of St. Joseph Church Community.
FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH
Due to the fact, that the first Friday of the month falls on Good Friday in April, there will be no Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, nor an occasion for Confessions on April 7. The next regular First Friday will be celebrated on May 5.
GOLDEN AGE CLUB
There will be a meeting of the Golden Age Club on Thursday, April 13 at 1:00 PM at the Parish Hall.
PARISH COUNCIL NEWS
On Sunday, February 26, the new Parish Council elected its Officers: Gail Francis became the President, Ferdinand Mubiala is the Vice-President, and Cindy Martin is the Secretary.
The first regular meeting of the Council took place on March 11. The Council made two amendments to the Constitution:
Article V, Section 4 – All elected members shall take office at the first regular meeting of The Council following their election and shall serve terms of three (3) years. No parishioner shall be eligible to serve more than two consecutive full terms of three (3) years each.
Article VI, Section 1 – The Officers of the Council shall be the President, Vice-President, and Secretary. All elected officers shall serve for terms of three (3) years each or until their successors have been elected. No officer shall serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office.
Other issues discussed:
The Money Counting Ministry needs to be revamped with the system which was previously established.
Current Parishioners who have been members for years, but suddenly stopped receiving envelopes.
It was suggested to alternate Altar Servers and Media Ministry youths/Adults.
Making schedules, time attendance, etc.
Encourage youths/adults to join and sometimes switch roles to make it interesting.
The Council dealt with one Synodal Question: Why do you think that people are leaving the church or stopped being involved in it?
Answer: People are looking for solutions to their worldly problems and will gravitate to any institution that offers such solutions.
The next Parish Council meeting was adjourned for a date to be announced.
FAREWELL TO FR. CHRIS
As it was confirmed during bishop Brennan’s visit to our Parish, Fr. Chris will remain the pastor until June 30, 2023. His last Sunday at our Parish will be June 25. On that day, there will be only one, bilingual Mass at 10:30 AM. After the Mass, there will be a Community Celebration throughout the day on St. Joseph’s campus. Both, Polish and Local Communities, are working together in order to organize that day.
AFRICAN COMMUNITY MEETING
There will be the African Community meeting on Sunday, April 16 after the 9:00 AM Mass.
CONFESSIONS BEFORE EASTER
There will be several hours of Confessions available before Easter:
Monday, April 3: 2:00—4:00 PM
& 6:00—9:00 PM.
On Monday, April 3, or Diocese and the Archdiocese of New York will celebrate “Reconciliation Monday”. That is why Confessions will be available in all churches of all 5 boroughs of New York City from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Please contact specific churches for more detailed schedules of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
OFFICE HOURS DURING HOLY WEEK
The Parish office will be open during the Holy Week on the following days:
Holy Monday: 9:00 AM — 3:00 PM
Holy Tuesday: 9:00 AM — 3:00 PM
Holy Wednesday: 9:00 AM — 3:00 PM.
The Office will remain closed until Tuesday, April 11.
EUCHARISTIC RALLY
Bishop Brennan has asked every Deanery to organize a Eucharistic Event for the entire deanery. The priests from our Deanery have decided that we will organize a Deanery Eucharistic Rally at St. Bonaventure Church on First Friday, June 2 at 7:00 PM. This rally will focus on the Eucharist, encompass some artistic expression, and will be a sign of unity of the entire Deanery with the community of St. Bonaventure—St. Benedict the More, as they have been struggling pastorally for quite some time now. More information will be available closer to the date of the Rally.
STROLLERS FROM THE SKIES
Our Lady of the Skies Chapel at JFK airport in partnership with Terminal 4 is taking regular supplies of strollers that are left behind by traveling passengers with their children. In the past months, the Confirmation Class of our church has participated in the delivery of those strollers to the Bridge to Life in College Point. They have been attaching tags to each stroller with a quote from the bible and a promise of prayer for all those moms and their children who became recipients of those important wheels.
We do have various strollers available at St. Joe’s. Anyone interested in getting one is requested to contact Fr. Chris or Ashley Aldrich. Of course, all strollers are free and vary due to supply from the airport.
WIADOMOŚCI PO POLSKU
NOWY PROBOSZCZ
Biskup Brennan nominował nowego proboszcza naszej Parafii. Jest nim Ks. Cezariusz Jastrzębski. Nowy Proboszcz ma 38 lat i otrzymał święcenia kapłańskie w 2014 roku. Obejmie on parafię św. Józefa od 1 lipca, 2023. Obecny proboszcz obejmie sąsiednią parafię Św. Bonawentury & Św. Benedykta Morusa w tym samym dekanacie.
REJESTRACJA PARAFIALNA
Przypominamy o obowiązku Rejestracji Parafialnej. W przypadku jej braku, proboszcz nie posiada niezbędnych kompetencji względem danej osoby lub rodziny. Według prawa kanonicznego, pełną przynależność do Parafii uzyskuje się w 3 miesiące po rejestracji. Rejestrację parafialną można wypełnić w internecie na stronie stjjamaica.org.
CHRZTY PO POLSKU
Chrzty św. po polsku są udzielane we wspólnie uzgodnionym terminie, którym jest zwykle weekend, z wyłączeniem okresu Wielkiego Postu. Chrzest św. udzielany jest w ramach osobnego nabożeństwa, a nie w czasie Mszy św. Najczęstszą praktyką jest chrzest w niedzielę bezpośrednio po Mszy św. o godz. 10:45. Dokładną datę należy bezpośrednio umówić z proboszczem.
Chrzty przyjmowane są jedynie od rodzin zarejestrowanych w naszej Parafii, nie wystarcza „chodzenie” do naszego kościoła! Do chrztu zgłasza ojciec lub matka; tylko takie zgłoszenia są przyjmowane. Formalności obejmują wypełnienie Formularza Zgłoszeniowego do Chrztu oraz dołączenia kopii Aktu Urodzenia. Całość można zgłosić w internecie na naszej stronie stjjamaica.org
CZYSZCZENIE KARTOTEKI PARAFIALNEJ
Tradycyjnie, wraz z Nowym Rokiem doknujemy przeglądu Kartoteki Parafialnej. Te domostwa bądź poszczególni wierni, którzy przynaj-mniej w ostatnich 6 miesiącach byli nieaktywni, zostaną usunięci z naszej Kartoteki, oznacza to, że przestają być zarajestrowanymi członkami naszej Wspólnoty Parafialnej i tracą jakiekolwiek prawa w naszej Wspólnocie. Jednocześnie proboszcz naszej Parafii traci kompetencje (prawo) względem owych wiernych i może działać kompetentnie tylko w przypadku zagrożenia życia.
PIERWSZY PIĄTEK MIESIĄCA
Zapraszamy na możliwość skorzystania z Sakramentu Pojednania i Pokuty w piątek 5 maja od 7:00 do 8:00 wieczorem.
SPOWIEDŹ PRZED WIELKANOCĄ
Przed Wielkanocą spowiedź będzie miała miejsce w następujących dniach:
Wielki Poniedziałek: od 2:00 do 4:00 PM
Wielki Poniedziałek: od 6:00 do 9:00 PM.
W Wielki Poniedziałek będzie miał miejsce tzw. „Poniedziałek Pojednania”, oznacza to, iż we wszystkich kościołach wszystkich pięciu dzielnic Nowego Jorku, spowiedź będzie dostępna w tym samym czasie: od 2:00 do 4:00, oraz od 6:00 do 9:00 wieczorem. W przypadku konkretnych kościołów, prosimy o kontakt, gdyż w niektórych miejscach godziny spowiedzi są rozszerzone poza wskazanymi powyżej ogólnymi godzinami dostępności spowiedzi.
POŚWIĘCENIE POKARMÓW WIELKANOCNYCH
W Wielką Sobotę o 11:00 rano będzie miało miejsce poświę-cenie pokarmów wielkanocnych. Przypominamy, iż post i wstrzemię-źliwość od pokarmów mięsnych nie obowiązują w Wielką Sobotę.
BIURO PARAFIALNE W WIELKIM TYGODNIU
W Wielkim Tygodniu nasze Biuro Parafialne będzie czynne w poniedziałek, wtorek i środę od 9:00 rano do 3:00 po południu. Od Wielkiego Czwartku Biuro będzie nieczynne do wtorku po Wielkanocy.
POŻEGNANIE Z PROBOSZCZEM
W nawiązaniu do potwierdzenia Biskupa, obecny proboszcz będzie sprawował swoją posługe do końca czerwca. W ostatnią niedzielę czerwca (25) będzie tylko jedna dwujęzyczna Msza o 10:30 rano. Po niej będzie przyjęcie pożegnalne na terenie Parafii. Nie będzie w tym dniu Mszy o 10:45.
WÓZKI Z NIEBA
Kaplica Matki Bożej Królowej Nieba na lotnisku JFK we współpracy z Terminalem 4 (JFKIAT) od kilku miesięcy dostarcza wózki dziecięce do centrum matki i dziecka „Bridge to Life” (Most w Stronę Życia) w College Point. Wózki te są pozostawiane przez pasażerów podróżujących z dziećmi przez Terminal 4. Nasza grupa kandydatów do bierzmowania przypinała do wózków metki z urywkami z Biblii i obietnicą modlitwy za matki i dzieci, oraz pomagała w ładowaniu ich do „bestii” przed dostarczeniem na miejsce. Ponieważ jednak mamy stały dopływ „cadillaków”, stąd też bardzo chętnie pomożemy tym, którzy są zainteresowani otrzymaniem bezpłatnego wózka. Na stanie są różne wersje, w zależności od tego co otrzymujemy z lotniska, jednakże wszystkie wózki są już używane. Osoby zainteresowane proszone są o bezpośredni kontakt z proboszczem.
POSŁUGI U ŚW. JÓZEFA
Zapraszamy do przemyślenia podzielenia się własnymi darami z resztą wspólnoty poprzez zaangażowa-nie w posługi, jak np. lektora, realizatora przekazu video, liczenia kolety po Mszy św., itp. Zaangażowanie w posługi to część bycią wspólnotą, oraz bardzo konretna odpowiedź na apel św. Jakuba by pokazywać wiarę poprzez uczynki, gdyż wiara bez uczynków jest martwa.
